Leader of your crew and one of the strongest living things on the island
- Explores the island alone before your ship gets thrown ashore
- Grapple gun allows him to fire stakes into the wall (grapple points) which is the reason for the grapple points existing when you explore the overworld
The halfway point: The Sea Devil (SD) takes over his body
- This is the worst case scenario: The captain is SO STRONG that giving SD that kind of power would be catastrophic
- Fortunately, the captain’s will is so ridiculous that SD can barely get him to cooperate: its commands amount to little more than suggestions
- “hmm… i’m getting the strangest urge to fight you…”
- SD really REALLY has to work hard to convince the captain to do anything
Source of comic relief: Obscene strength could be the source of many visual gags
- Usually kindhearted and considerate, but his cheery attitude + strength can be a huge problem sometimes
- Unphased by virtually any threat
- Has slowly built up a world-class crew
- Not strictly because the people he recruited were anything special, but because they literally had to keep up with his pace or die a comical death
- Following the captain’s lead has toughened up every member of the crew, completely unintentionally though
Your goal shifts from getting off the island to dealing with SD and freeing him so you can all leave together
Music
First encounter
- Going for an Asgore-like scene where The Captain has been built up as this absolute monster throughout the game so far, but he’s really just a big friendly guy when you meet him (although his superhuman strength quickly becomes very, very apparent)
Fight immediately after he’s been possessed by SD
Pre-final showdown encounter
- Basically just him lounging on a massive chair attempting to describe SD without a care in the world
- The scene tries to subvert expectations after showing what SD usually does to people: while the other 2 hosts we’ve seen so far exhibit no free will of their own, The Captain is basically his usual jolly self and only fights you after EXTENSIVE attempts from SD to persuade him
