Before the game starts: The S.S. Glue approaches the island in search of treasure / as an expedition vessel (to be determined). Their captain scouts ahead - initially to check for danger, but he gets too excited and explores the whole thing himself anyways. The ship is lifted into the air by a mysterious force and gets flung towards the island. The crew gets peeled off in midair, with each member landing in different places.
-
Crash landing: The player lands on the island, goes through a very brief tutorial section, and makes their way down the beach. There they find a small castaway settlement and help them by scaling the surrounding cliffs and activating an elevator, allowing the castaways to reach the jungle above. A strange man in a crab suit tries to stop you, but gets trampled by the castaways as they charge into the jungle. They leave you behind and you follow their path. You wonder if letting these guys run rampant was such a good idea.
-
Jungle intro: The player continues through the jungle on a mostly linear path. They learn a little about the island along the way, but encounter very few people. Some plot points that will happen during this time:
- Player encounters a run-down temple built to pay tribute to the nature spirit
- Player encounters clay spirit enemies (combat introduction)
- Player receives a new ability (double jump)
- Player encounters the beach castaways from earlier, who have set up a small camp and are doing much better. Their urge to loot and pillage has come out in full force now that they’ve recovered from severe malnutrition.
-
Big tree: The player eventually encounters the big tree, an even more sacred site relating to the nature spirit. A bit of information is obtained about the nature spirit. Paths branch out a little, allowing the player to go at their own pace before eventually arriving at the next big crossroads.
-
Ancient city: The player finally manages to reunite with the captain in front of a big gate (locked until you reach a high enough level). The gate leads inwards to the ancient city. You eventually grow strong enough to enter the city and make it to the volcanic well where the Sea Devil is trapped. The captain accidentally unseals the entrance to the Sea Devil and is possessed by it. The player gets beaten up and thrown off the volcano, later rescued by the sole surviving wizard of the ancient civilization (who provides some much-needed context and an exposition dump).
-
Rescue: The last wizard explains how catastrophic it is that your captain was possessed by the sea devil. Against all odds, his ridiculous power is on the same level as a lesser god. Your new mission is to take out enough high-power targets to grow strong enough to last long enough against him in a fight so the wizard can deliver some aid. The player explores (at most) 3 newly-opened areas complete with bosses (similar to Dark Souls 1 after you get the lordvessal). One of these areas is the secret wizard lab, where you activate the device that reforms the clay spirit back into its original godly state. Eventually, the player fights the captain and gets in his head to kick the sea devil out. The captain, now free, sends the sea devil flying, and it seems like all is well. However, due to a freak coincidence, the sea devil ends up landing next to the fully reformed clay spirit. The two exchange an awkward glance before the sea devil takes over the clay spirit and breaks out of its underground prison.
