The character you play as shouldn’t be one of the crew, but rather just a passenger who happened to be traveling with them when all the shit went down

Pretty fitting comparison that came to mind: It’s like dropping all the TF2 mercs into a dark fantasy world - these guys are SO out of place here and bend the world to their whims. Yet another case of “comedic relief characters in a serious fantasy setting” like Bone graphic novels

Feels like you’re an outsider - all the interesting stuff between them happens when you’re away

Crew members aren’t TOO relevant to the story at hand, mostly exist in the background aside from the captain

Crew members

  • Captain
    • Captain Underpants
    • Saxton Hale
    • Samurai Goroh (mostly in appearance only)
    • Listens to: Mongo Santamaria, Dave Brubeck
  • Helmsman
    • Grumpy guy who demands there be order on board the ship
      • One of only two crew members who isn’t just goofing off 24/7
      • Once you look past his grumpiness you realize he pulls a ton of weight on the crew - gets shit DONE
    • Crowbar from The Felt
    • Cogsley
    • Mike Erhmantraut
    • Listens to: Whatever everyone else hates - Devo or something as equally obnoxious to some - his only weapon against the crew (They hate it) (Which only makes him love it more)
      • Sour Kraut in hi-fi
      • Alternatively: Stevie Ray Vaughan or classic rock
  • Lookout / sharpshooter
    • Deadpan, can wait around for days at a time keeping watch but has far less patience for the world’s most annoying crew
      • -_-
      • Hurls passive aggressive remarks towards the crew but they’re never smart enough to be bothered by it
    • Listens to: Brian Eno? Anything with obnoxiously long ambient songs
  • Bigman
    • Cook? Gourmet? Otherwise just more muscle and a major bullet sponge
      • Idolizes the captain, sees him as a father figure of sorts - very similar to him personality-wise, but a bit more naive and childlike
    • Lucky Roo
    • Listens to: Beastie Boys, Sir Mix-A-Lot (Solely for seattle connection)
  • Engineer
    • Works in the engine room on board the ship and very rarely not seen digging through engines / salvaging parts while on the island
      • Mole, never sees the light of day - never spends more than 30 seconds getting food or using the bathroom
    • Hubble from 17776 (all 2 lines)
    • Listens to: Front Line Assembly, Nine Inch Nails
  • Researcher
    • Explorer, Charles Darwin ripoff
      • Not as capable as the captain but that’s what drew him to the crew - able to accomplish more with his strength
      • One single expedition with him gave him more information than his past five - captain takes down megafauna like it’s nothing
      • Scenes where he’s surrounded by a million sheets of paper scribbling frantically with a big goofy smile
      • Always upbeat and excited to learn new things but flies into a RAGE when people step on his notes / fuck with variables in experiments
      • Has a lot of theories about the island, he’s your main source of semi-believable tips about the place
      • Perhaps more of a horticulturist than a biologist
    • Looks: Calculus from Tintin and that SimCity guy assist trophy from smash bros
    • Dynamo
    • Honeybee professor from PS
    • Pokemon bug trainers with explorer hat and magnifying glass
    • Listens to: Mort Garson, Wendy Carlos
  • Fencer
    • Very snooty royal soldier-type guy
      • Very butler-like demeanor, helpful and CRAZY in combat but doesn’t display much emotion
    • Ask Jeeves
    • Jarvis
    • Has Jughead eyes
    • Listens to: Whatever everyone else listens to?
  • Potential roles for one more?
    • Mystic - aware that something is off about the island
      • Could be interesting giving them very very basic magic skills, implying the wizards had some influence outside of the island
    • Birdman - pilot with a flight/wingsuit that lets him scout out locations - frequently seen with engineer and researcher improving his suit (holding a t-pose impatiently while the other two circle him taking notes)
      • Johnny Bravo
      • Takamura
      • Tries to stay stoic but is a huge dweeb and kind of a manchild
      • Listens to: Ska and nothing else

Relationships between the crew

  • Captain and Bigman crack each other up, have similar sense of humor
  • Helmsman and Sharpshooter get along REALLY well, they bond over the feeling that they’re losing their minds dealing with the rest of the nutjobs on this crew - they’re keeping each other sane
  • Researcher and captain: Researcher has an infinite number of questions for captain whenever they meet up, but captain is usually pretty vague and unhelpful about it - researcher gets increasingly frustrated and looks like this after every one of the captain’s answers
